In 1960 the first homes of the 318 in Birchwood Hills were established. The  "estate-sized" homes were the first of their kind to be built in the area, making them highly sought after. Despite the many years that have pasted, it is still a highly desirable neighborhood, with home prices nearly doubling over the past few years.

Nestled in a quiet nook hugged by I-435 and  HWY 71, the location is unbeatably! Just a 10 minutes drive and you can find yourself at Red Bridge Shopping Center which is home to Crow's Coffee, various restaurants, and a Mid-Continent Library branch. We are a quick 20 minute drive north to downtown Kansas City, a quick 15-20 minute drive west and you can enjoy all that Kansas has to offer, another 15-20 minute drive east and you're in the heart of Lee's Summit.

There is also deep history here! The Santa Fe Trail went right through Birchwood Hills. "The Santa Fe Trail was first used in 1821 by William Becknell. Becknell packed goods from Franklin, Missouri, to Santa Fe with five companions. The party left on September 1, 1821 and reached Santa Fe on November 16th (Duffus 1972)." NPS (2024, June 3rd) Trail Beginnings & Geographic Setting https://www.nps.gov/articles/santa-fe-trail-beginnings.htm

We are also lucky enough to have a few hidden gems within walking distance! Fox & Bull (a bakery offering fresh baked pastries and breads), Dramatic Truths (a dance studio for children and adults), and we cannot forget the ever so convenient Dollar General. But it doesn't stop there, soon to come will be our own neighborhood Pizzeria offering multiple Cornhole courts!

The Birchwood Hills Homeowners Association (HOA) was established when they broke ground to build the first homes in 1960. Simply, it exists to maintain and protect property values in our community. While there are far more restrictive HOAs out there, Birchwood Hills does have limitations and restrictions. If you are a potential home buyer or a current homeowner, it is encouraged that you familiarize yourself with the Bylaws & Restrictions

Since the beginning, various men and  women have volunteered their time to serve on the board, not only to uphold the Bylaws & Restrictions, but to also help build community! They are responsible for planning the events and activities that take place year round. They also actively work hard to find ways to better the neighborhood, often working with local and city officials. So we encourage you to participate and help build neighborly friendships and a strong community!

If you have ideas that you think can better the neighbor or are interested in serving as a board member, you can contact us here, reach out to a board member, or tell your Block Ambassador!
